Changing tariff routing

Print this Topic Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Tariff Routing page allows you to introduce routing changes to a specific tariff and bring these changes into immediate effect.  Routing changes can only be made for the currently active version of the tariff in question, and cannot be made for tariff updates scheduled for future implementation.  The routing options for future tariffs should be prepared locally as a Microsoft Excel file and uploaded.

To reach this page, go to the Tariff page of the DUAL Softswitch Administrative Control Panel.  The table on this page lists all defined tariffs, and clicking on the Routing link for a particular tariff takes you to that tariff's Routing Page.

A table will be shown at the top of the page if there are any routing options set for the current implementation of the tariff.  The table will show the routing properties in place that override the standard routing behaviour.  You can change the routing properties for a destination by either:

1. Clicking on the destination name in the table or
2. Selecting the destination using the drop down box at the bottom of the page

The following page shows a form with four fields.  These fields work in a very similar way to the Excel fields used when preparing a tariff for uploading:

Route and Last Route

The first and last carrier fields can be used to restrict the carriers available to a sub-set of the eligible carriers in when Least Cost Routing applies.  The routing table, which is created using uploaded carriers' rates shows the eligible carriers for call based on matching dialled numbers.  For Least Cost Routing, calls are switched to carriers in the order presented in a routing record.

For example, a particular routing request may result in the following available carriers:

Carrier One
Carrier Two
Carrier Three
Carrier Four

By setting the "first carrier" and "last carrier" in this form, Least Cost Routing can be limited to a subset of these carriers.  Routing will start with the "first carrier" and end with the "last carrier".

As an illustration, the following tables show the candidate carriers for Least Cost Routing that would result from a call that matched the above routing record and with various combinations of "first carrier" and "last carrier" settings.

This call would fail.

In the last example, the call would fail, because Carrier Five is not returned from the routing table as a carrier.  The exception is if the next "wholesale" field has an entry.

Wholesale

Ordinarily, this field should be left blank.  If it is set to any value then calls to this destination will be sent immediately to the carrier specified in the Route field and would not be eligible for Alternative Routing.  Buy  rates for the "first carrier" need not be uploaded, because Least Cost Routing does not apply in this case.  The entry in the Wholesale field specifies the per minute rate charged for these calls by the carrier.

Allow loss

By default, DUAL Softswitch will allow calls to proceed even if it detects that a financial loss would result.  That is, the carrier charges more than the per minute tariff rate.  This global behaviour can be changed by contacting our support team (support@dualsoftswitch.com). You can override this behaviour for the tariff in question using this field.  The possible values are:

[Default] - Do not change the default behaviour
Financial loss not allowed
Financial loss allowed
